Netherfield

Netherfield Church - The service this week, Sunday June 22 will be a Holy Communion at Netherfield and will be celebrating our Patronal Festival. The final Sunday of June will be an All Age Worship Pet Service at Mountfield. This will include the blessing of pets, large and small and will, weather permitting, be held in the churchyard so bring chairs or rugs with you. All services start at 10 am. Paul Smith, Churchwarden.

On Sunday June 22, Peter Miles will be leading a Special Woodland Walk in Mountfield on behalf of church funds. The walk will be over some very special land that is normally completely inaccessible from any public footpaths. Peter will reveal the remains of a 13thC fortified manor house and other medieval earthworks, some extraordinary trees and rare wild plants, the remains of local mining from at least the 16thC, fascinating local field and wood names, a Tudor version of Spaghetti Junction and much more. Of particular interest is the well preserved section of the old Sow Trail, known locally as Sow Lane, by which iron was transported from Ashburnham and Penhurst furnaces to Robertsbridge ironworks. Places are £7.50 for adults, children go free (not recommended for under-10s) and dogs on leads welcome. The walk is only a couple of miles and generally easy walking. It will start from Mountfield Village Hall at 10.00 and last just under three hours. Peter is always a lively and informative guide. For more information or to book, call Peter on 01580 880614 or Jackie Spriggs on 01580 880261.
