MP TO MEET 'STOP CLIMATE CHAOS' SUPPORTERS

LEWES MP Norman Baker (Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Minister) is among 70 politicians meeting 700 Stop Climate Chaos supporterstoday (March 1) as the UK's climate change coalition calls for the cutting of national greenhouse gas emissions by three percent, year on year.

Stop Climate Chaos supporters will be representing a broad range of environmental, faith based and international development organisations as they meet their political 'dates' and ask them to call on the Chancellor to introduce a Carbon Budget setting out binding targets for emissions across all sectors of the economy.

A growing list of politicians are booking in for Carbon Dating including Conservative leader, David Cameron (paternity leave permitting), Secretary of State for the Environment, Margaret Beckett and Conservative Shadow Environment Ministers Peter Ainsworth.

MPs will arrive between 2-4pm and rotate around different 'dating' tables where they will listen to concerns and answer questions on global climate change. Supporters will talk passionately about how climate change impacts on the environment, biodiversity and the world's poorest people.

At the end of the event, there will be feedback from both sides of the table. Stop Climate Chaos supporters will have the opportunity to rate their dates with comments on which MPs showed themselves to be passionate about the planet and demonstrated a commitment for action to tackle climate change.

MPs will also feedback on the most compelling pitch they received from a Carbon Date as well as being given the opportunity to sign up to the political asks and / or make a personal pledge to help Stop Climate Chaos.
