Motor-bike nuisance to be curbed

RESIDENTS of Roderick Avenue, Peacehaven, can look forward to a quieter life.

Their street has been used by motor-cyclists who have caused problems by anti-social riding.

Now a motorbike 'inhibitor' device has been installed.

The Local Action Team (made up of police community support officers, a crime prevention officer, neighbourhood police sergeants, anti-social behaviour co-ordinator, Lewes District Council housing department and housing associations, town councillors, Neighbourhood Watch, residents' associations and youth workers) have been looking into ways of preventing nuisance in the area.

The device means that motorbikes will not be able to get through as it reduces the width of access, preventing the handlebars of the bikes from getting through the restricted width.

Robin Fuller, Neighbourhood Sergeant, said: 'This is a problem which the local action team acting together have tackled with hopefully a successful result for the benefit of local residents.

'The local police team strongly support this initiative and feel this is an effective solution to the problem and we will continue to monitor with interest.'

This initiative has been made possible with funding from the local action team who have purchased the motorbike 'inhibitor' and East Sussex County Council who have funded the installation of the bike stopper.

The Local Action Team is looking into installing motorbike inhibitors in other areas in Peacehaven which are subject to motorbike nuisance.
