More help for Littlehampton flooding victims in the pipeline

FLOODING victims in Arun district will be given helping hand to cope with the disaster from today (Thursday, June 14).

Staff from Arun District Council are due to head out to the worst affected areas of flooding, this afternoon to deliver information packs to 250 homes.

These packs will provide advice to residents to help them get back to normal after the unprecedented rainfall earlier this week.

They also include information on how to clean-up safely after a flood, general health advice, and details of the dates and locations of a series of special flood relief days being held across the area, beginning in Felpham, tomorrow (Friday, June 15).

During the events, representatives from the National Flood Forum will be on-hand to provide addition support for residents

In Littlehampton a stall will be set up on The Green, opposite some of the devastated homes in South Terrace, on Sunday (June 17). Another will be opened the following day, next to Barnham’s railway station, in Yapton Road and on Tuesday (June 19) a stall will be opened in Wick’s shopping precinct.

The council is also planning to make a number skips available for use in some of the hardest hit areas, in the coming days.

A spokeswoman for the authority said that it is in constant contact with the Met Office and that its emergency rest centres, at the Littlehampton Swimming and Sports Centre and the Arun Leisure Centre, in Felpham, will be on standby. Water pumps have also been prepared, in case more heavy rain hits the district.
