SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: This Sunday is Palm Sunday, which marks Jesus' entry into Jerusalem and greeted by the populace as a King, the chosen one whom they hoped would bring about the freedom of Israel from their Roman occupiers. It will be a service of Morning Praise with a special activity for children. The rest of the week includes a number of special services at Trinity South Malling. This coming Thursday (Maundy Thursday), everyone is welcome to a Tenebrae Service with Holy Communion beginning at 8pm. This begins with a solemn communion marking the night when Christ met with his disciples for the meal which became the first ever Communion Service. This is followed by a quiet period of listening as key verses are read, about the meal, Jesus' agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, and his arrest and questioning. During this time the lights slowly go out and as the readings end, the congregation leaves the darkened church. People find this quite moving. On Good Friday, there is a meditation developed by the Iona Community based on the crucifixion which lasts for an hour. There is no sermon. This begins at 10am ending at 11am. On Easter Saturday the mood changes for an Easter Craft morning for children in church and beginning at 9.30am. Finally, on Easter Sunday, the Easter Communion Service begins at 9.30am. All are welcome.
