'Make this road safer for our kids' plead mums

WORRIED mums are calling for a pedestrian crossing along a busy road to make it safer for their children to get to school.

Mums gathered outside The New Montessori Pre-School in Tarring Road on Monday in the hope it would prove to West Sussex County Council just how serious they were about getting a pedestrian crossing near the school.

According to them, the road is very busy, with a series of blind spots, making it very dangerous to cross.

It's a view shared by staff at Davison High and St Andrew's, which has many students who use the road to get to school.

Becky Rocheleau, whose daughter Beatrice, three, attends the pre-school, said: "It can take up to 10 minutes to be able to cross the road safely.

"The school gate leads right onto the pavement and you have to make sure you have your child's hand before you open the gate because the pavement is narrow and there is not a lot of space before the road. If there are cyclists using the pavement, there is no space at all."
