Littlehampton’s Silcstone seeking success

FAME, fortune and all the trappings of rock stardom are set in the sights of a Littlehampton band.

Silcstone have made it through to the southern area final of national competition Live and Unsigned, after storming through the regional heat last week.

The four-piece will now play at Portsmouth Guildhall on May 21, and, if they make it through, will be in to the national final, at London’s 02.

Drummer, Simon Stewart, 18, said the wait to take the stage at the Hove Centre had been a long one.

“We were fine until we were called, and we were just standing in this corridor waiting to go on, That’s when I think everyone started to get a bit uptight.

“I was banging my drumsticks, just trying to get some of the nerves out.”

Once they started playing, though, the nerves disappeared, and they wowed the judges with heir own track, You’re Losing Me, and a cover of The Kinks’ classic, You’ve Really Got Me.

“It went down really well. When we came off, we were all cheering, and happy about how it went,” said Simon, who is joined in the band by Alexis Twine on vocals, Kris Faerber on guitar and Graham Quiggan on bass.

Then came the wait for the result, and they were not disappointed.

“Everyone was really nice, and we were walking through this corridor with everyone cheering for us.

“It was the most crazy experience.”

Looking forward to the Portsmouth final, for which the band are busy writing a new song, Simon said: “I am really glad that we are able to do this. I don’t know about the others, but I am really confident.

“We are just going to keep working on the band.”
