But Littlehampton’s sights will be firmly fixed on one of the town’s own Olympic-styled events – the Pancake Olympics.

The charity bonanza will make its return in March and now event organiser Littlehampton Town Council is urging teams to sign-up and join the fun.

The annual competition sees teams of wannabe Olympians battling it out for the coveted golden frying pan and £100 for their chosen charity.

Teams of four adults or children are invited to take part in a series of challenges, ranging from the pancake sprint, curling and obstacle courses.

The chairman of the town council’s community resources committee, councillor Malcolm Belchamber said: “As a previous judge, I have had the privilege of meeting past participants and witness their boundless energy and determination to raise funds for local causes.

“Hundreds of pounds are raised each year at this event, supporting vital services in Littlehampton.

“Everyone, young and old, is welcome to take part, so make sure you sign up and support a local charity.”

The current title holder is the Martlets care home in East Preston, which has remained undefeated for two consecutive years.

The day, which is supported by Sainsbury’s, will take place in High Street, on Saturday, March 1 from 11am.

Teams can join by filling a form online at www.littlehampton-tc.gov.uk or calling 01903 732063.

The deadline for applications is Friday, February 14.
