Lifeboat aids dog rescuer

RYE Harbour Lifeboat went to the aid of a man trapped in the river after slipping in while trying to rescue his dog.

The incident happened at 1.46pm as the lifeboat was responding to a call to a broken down speedboat with four occupants on board.

The man was waist deep in the water and being a non-swimmer was unable to climb back up the wall due to the amount of seaweed growing on the wall. The crew recovered the man into the lifeboat taking him to one of the ladders along the river wall where he was able to climb back up .

Richard Tollett, from the Lifeboat, said: “It is unusual to happen upon a person in such a serious predicament whilst going to another incident.”
