Leisure centres should beencouraging the youngsters

I AM truly 'un-inspired' and somewhat shocked by the article in last week's Bognor Regis Observer.

Are the people we've entrusted to manage our leisure centres really thinking of ways of discouraging parents with little income and young children from visiting the centre during those all-important early learning years?

Maybe the Inspire Leisure trust has some long-term vision to ban toddlers from the centre.

If it isn't frightening families with price increases, centre staff are subjecting children to that ridiculous life-sized puppet with tentacles.

I, for one, will not be able to afford to take my children along. Does '˜Inspire me not' understand how difficult it already is to raise children as a single parent without imposing ridiculous and unnecessary charges upon them?

Has any work been carried out to actually see what the community at large want from our leisure centres? Or is Inspire Leisure trying to dictate to the community the way forward?

I am guessing the trust has enough creative and dynamic individuals who are capable of looking at other options for generating income without sinking to this level.

I think Inspire Leisure should take a step back and quickly understand young children should be encouraged to experience what a leisure centre has to offer at the earliest possible opportunity, without placing unnecessary hurdles in their way.

These people must realise they actually work for the community of this area and that tax payers do not work for them!
