Jean’s Girls march in memory of Horsham woman

Debbie Davies, Lorraine Dipre, Louise Sparks, Rebecca Davies, Marisa Dipre, Jade Dipre, Isabella Frost and Georgie Shersby took part in the Marsden March on Sunday March 22.

The team marched in memory of Jean Tubb, their mother and grandmother who died of cancer in 1995, and called themselves ‘Jean’s Girls’.

They also walked in memory of other family members lost to cancer.

Jean’s husband David, who lives in Horsham, said: “I am bursting at the chest with pride to be honest. They did absolutely wonderfully.

“They worked so hard to get the money, it has come good for them and I am so pleased.

“I am so proud of them, it was a big effort. They have been training for so long.”

David said the walkers took around four and a half hours to complete the challenge, which involved trekking between the Royal Marsden’s hospitals in Chelsea and Sutton.

Debbie added: “As it is 20 years since mum passed away, we decided to do something special in her memory and the Royal Marsden March seemed a very fitting cause because of their fantastic research facilities and the care they provide for cancer sufferers.

“It was an emotional and inspiring day for us all. We would love to say a massive thank you to all those friends and family who supported us.

“We were inspired to take part in the march by our sister Louise, who encouraged us all to get fit!”
