Janet helps hospice

"I just thought it sounded quite exciting," said Janet (pictured), of Maple Walk in Little Common.

The Hospice is looking for all those brave enough to take part in a 20ft firewalk - the event is to take place in Hastings at the Horntye Park Sports Complex on April 4.

Participants will be given the correct training and motivation beforehand, when they attend a two hour motivational session prior to the walk itself.

Janet said: "I have always found 'mind-over-matter' quite fascinating, how they can teach you with a two hour motivational talk and that's enough to get you psyched up to walk over 20ft of burning coal."

She has never done anything like this before but says she is not afraid - so far.

"I probably will be when I see how hot it is. I made myself a cup of tea the other night and ended up throwing it over myself - it was painful! My husband said it was a dry run for the firewalk......

"I am very positive about it, that it will be absolutely fine - I think that is half the battle, having a positive attitude."

She has received various bits of advice already, including a suggestion from her teenage daughter Charlotte that she put vaseline on her feet to protect them.

"I said, I don't think so - it's a bit flammable, Charlotte".

Her family - including husband Gary's grandmother who lives in France - will be supporting her at the event, for which she is currently finding sponsorship.

The Hospice's Cheryl Davis claimed: "If you can do this, you can do anything."
