Congratulations to the Robin Hood for getting the Pub of the Year award If you missed last week’s Rye Observer there’s half a page about the pub with a picture of its photogenic team.

Last Saturday’s ‘’Words and Music on a Summer Evening’’ was a very enjoyable mixture. Nicky Harris and Aubrey Sinden chose verse which the audience could relate to. Peter Spencer ‘s two pieces, performed for the first time, had great charm. Roger Marvin played so well and Le Tuttecurve were accompanied with subtlety and skill by Duncan Reid.Le Tuttecurve (The Curvaceous ones) sang from their varied repertoire. The trio are classically trained and if you get a chance to hear Carolyn Bruce, Karen McInally and Claire Sheffield do so. Details of their performances contact

Another landmark on the way to Rye was in the national press recently. Carpenter’s Meadow is where Spike Milligan lived from 1988 until his death aged 83 10 years ago. and it is for sale. Coming down Ferry Hill in Winchelsea Carpenter’s Meadow is a laRge house of yellowish brick just below the crest of Udimore Ridge. Did Spike buy it because of its location? It’s in Dumb Woman’s Lane.
