Household driveon food waste

A campaign has been launched today to stop households wasting food.

Arun District Council started the project after a survey revealed 40 per cent of the rubbish in bin bags was food.

The council is pointing out what simple steps can be taken to stop the situation and reduce its impact on the environment.

As well as food taking up space in landfill sites, its package and transporting also use resources.

Cllr Paul Wotherspoon, in charge of Arun's environment policies, said: 'If we could stop the amount of edible food being thrown away, it would have the same effect as taking one in five cars off the road across the country.'
