HEAD-TURNING HARLEY ON PATROL

SUSSEX Police will be tackling crime in style on the latest addition to their traffic team '“ a stunning Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

The bike has been provided by Shaw Harley-Davidson of Holmes Hill, near Lewes, and has been prepared in full Sussex Police livery, complete with sirens and flashing blue and red lights.

John Shaw, owner of the dealership, handed over the keys to Chief Constable Joe Edwards. Mr Shaw said: 'I am sure this will create a great talking point when the police are out on patrol.

'To have a Harley-Davidson is completely different and will attract a lot of interest. We're delighted to have been able to work with Sussex Police and hope they're able to carry on promoting safe motorcycling and enjoy the ride on the Harley-Davidson.'

The 1584cc machine will be used by Sussex Police in all of their standard patrol situations, as well as featuring on the BikeSafe programme '“ a police course designed to help improve rider skills and promote safe motorcycling.

The bike will be tested by the force for a 12-month period and is the first Harley-Davidson to be used on the county fleet.
