Hat-trick hero Harry hits the headlines for Littlehampton pupils

Pupils at River Beach Primary School in Littlehampton became sports reporters for the day after a visit from the Gazette's sports editor, Steve Bailey

The Gazette’s sports editor Steve Bailey went along to the school, in York Road, to show the children the art of writing match reports and headlines.

The day started with the students watching highlights of the Tottenham Hotspur versus Leicester City Premier League match in which Spurs clinched a 4-3 victory.

They had to take notes of the game and then write a 200 to 300 word report, with all the key details.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane was the centre of attention after scoring a hat-trick in the match and was also the main focus for the headlines, with ‘Hat-trick hero Harry’ and ‘Hurri-Kane’ among the terms used.

The following day, the students put their skills to the test when they played several games against each other.

They took it in turn to watch matches and take notes, before producing their own match reports.
