Hastings man arrested after DNA on vandalised cars in Bexhill examined

DNA evidence found on three vandalised cars in Little Common Road, Bexhill, has led to the arrest of a 22-year-old man from Hastings on suspicion of criminal damage.

PC Andy Hanson from East Sussex Response Investigation Team said: “The cars had been damaged sometime overnight on Saturday May 19. Forensics obtained from the damaged wing mirrors a few days later led to an arrest and admission of guilt on all three counts from the suspect on July 2.

“Criminal damage to people’s personal belongings is incredibly upsetting for the victims and Sussex Police will do all it can to find those responsible for this mindless crime.”

The suspect has been bailed until July 8 and both he and his victims have agreed to the case being dealt with by Community Resolution.

Community Resolution offers victims the opportunity to help decide the outcome of their case. This normally includes asking the offender to pay for damage caused, writing a letter of apology or even to undertake charity work but the outcome must be proportionate to the offence and agreed by victim, offender and the police officer in charge.
