The tree was planted by Midhurst Town Council chairman Mark Purves who was helped by two Midhurst Primary School pupils Nell (11) and Maggie (9) Whitby. The school band provided the music for the occasion.
The ceremony was part of a tree planting scheme being led by The Rev David Coote for the town council. Later this year the council will be looking for donations to plant hundreds of bulbs around the tree, which came from Rotherhill Nurseries. A plaque commemorating the occasion was donated by Roger Poat and Partners and Hampshire Memorials.
