The force released a fresh appeal today (July 17) as it looks to find out how the crash occurred that killed Paulo Pinto, 42, of Common Lane, around midnight on July 6.

His red Seat Leon was travelling west along Common Road and collided with a blue Peugeot 406 coming east.

Mr Pinto passed away at the scene.

“The driver of the Peugeot, a 67-year-old man from Chichester, was taken to Southampton General Hospital with multiple serious injuries,” said police today.

“Following surgery he was transferred to St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester where he is now recovering.”

PC Doug Park from the road policing investigation team said: “We believe that the red Seat may have been parked up near to where the collision happened in the time leading up to it. We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen it anywhere in the area just before midnight on that Sunday evening (July 5).”

If anyone did see either of the cars involved or witnessed the collision or its immediate aftermath, they should email [email protected] or call 101 quoting Operation Foley.
