Fresh ideas needed over how to spend Sainsbury's money in Bognor

Innovation and fresh ideas on how the Sainsbury's money should be spent are needed, said a Bognor Regis businesswoman.

Entrepreneur Suzi Buckley, 31, who has lived in the town since she was 11, has impressed councillors and the head of Bognor Regis regeneration task force Richard McMann with ideas on how the cash could be spent.

Miss Buckley said: "I was chatting on the Bognor forum on Facebook last Sunday and I noticed the post 'how do you think this money should be spent' referring to the Sainsbury's money.

"I didn't realise councillors were on there, and I started voicing some of my ideas."

Miss Buckley, who set up her own business Indigo NLP in 2007, will have a meeting with Mr McMann to discuss her thoughts.

One idea Miss Buckley believes would help put the town back on the map would be to make a Bognor Regis documentary which would be available online.

She said: "We could interview students from schools and residents from nursing homes, but what is important is we ask people in the town what they would like to see the money used for, what would benefit them and what they think would help to improve the town.

"We also need to ask tourists why they come to the town, and what would make them come back.

"Littlehampton has Britain's longest bench '“ why can't Bognor have something like that? We need to encourage people to generate ideas, we need something exciting and different, but most importantly to get the full benefit. The community has to be involved."

Other ideas Miss Buckley is keen to promote are weekly or monthly markets and possible shopping ventures.

"If people start to think outside the box, who knows what they could come up with?"
