Football fun thanks to new kickwall in Middleton

Footballers will be able to practise at a new kickwall at Middleton's playing fields.

It is hoped the leisure facility will limit the damage being caused to the sports paviliion at Shrubb's Field by footballs being regularly kicked against the windows and doors.

The kickwall is being provided thanks to a 2,750 grant awarded to the field's trustees by the SITA Trust.

The trust's cheque, from its landfill communities fund, will also pay for a basketball hoop to be attached to the kickwall to enable as many young people as possible to benefit from the installation.

The Trustees of Shrubb's Field will work with Middleton Parish Council to install the kickwall.

Trustees' chairman Richard Jeffrey said: "I very much hope that the new facilities provided will be well used and enjoyed by everyone and that the kickwall will now be the new target for those wanting to hone their football skills."
