Football craziness hits East Preston Festival

WOMEN’S Institute members put the Bra into Bra-zil in the East Preston Festival’s carnival parade on Saturday.

With lacy underwear printed onto the front of their pink t-shirts, and football squad numbers on the back, the WI team showed they were ready for the global football fiesta kicking off tonight in Brazil.

And to complete the witty picture, there was a referee brandishing red and yellow cards, while inflatable goalposts and a ball were carried to keep the score ticking along on the procession route.

It wasn’t quite enough to win first place in the adult walking groups, which went to The Martlets home’s Rio party-goers, but still earned the WI second prize.

With the World Cup and Brazilian carnivals in mind, this was one of the brightest, most colourful parades through East Preston in more than 30 years of the festivities.
