Flats opposed

BUILDING 18 flats following demolition of a block of six in Broad Oak would result in gross overdevelopment, councillors agreed last week.

Eleven letters opposing the scheme were received by Wealden Council from neighbours of the site at Uplands Court. Heathfield and Waldron Parish Council also objected.

Concerns included poor access for emergency vehicles, inadequate parking, additional traffic and dangerous access on to Burwash Road.

A report to a meeting of the development control south sub-committee, which refused the application, said efforts to obtain additional information about the plan had failed.

The report said the 'gross overdevelopment' of the site would result in a lack of space and amenities for prospective occupiers, and an increased loss of privacy and light for neighbouring residential occupiers.
