Fancy-footed fundraisers danced the day away in Felpham

A team of Arun District Council workers have danced the day away for charity.

The eight council officers were nursing sore ankles after taking part in last week’s ten hour Macmillan Danceathon.

The team – who went by the name of the Dolly Mixtures – were Clare Thompson, Rachel Hills, Jane Dick, Sarah Wingate, Louise Hemmings, Sarah Hunt, Lois Anderson and Helen Atkinson. They raised an impressive £1,300.

Team leader Sarah said: “The danceathon was such a great way to raise money for such a worthy cause.

“Half of the team were required to do a dance at any one time but each team member managed nine of the ten dance routines. We took our own cowgirl hats, baseball caps and feather boas to really get into the spirit of each dance.

“We had our own personalised t-shirts with our team name on the back and our name on the front.

“It was a fantastic day and everyone had great fun. We are all so delighted to have raised such a great amount for Macmillan, and want to thank everyone who has supported us and been so generous.”

The team took part in ten different dance classes, including jazz, Latin ballroom, burlesque, the can can, Bollywood, line dancing, hip hop, pop, ballet and Zumba – supported by friends, family and colleagues.

The danceathon took place at Arun Leisure Centre on October 30.
