Farm Diary by Gwyn Jones

It's drying up at last. Thank goodness for that, as we have a huge amount of work to do and we are limited in how long we can spread slurry on the land as the growing season approaches. We did not get the plough in the ground at Tillington after all, but we can get on now as the sandy soil dries out rapidly.

The clay at Plaistow is very wet and sticky again, but this wind is making a difference. Weald clay does not warm up until it is dry on top, and as we are now in March, the growing season in upon us. Mind you there will not be much growth until temperatures climb a little, but with days lengthening and the clocks going forward at the end of the month; winter's over.
