Elmer film producer to host Windmill screening

Pamela Godfrey, 55, of Farm Close in Elmer, worked behind the scenes on ‘The Man Who Knew Infinity’ as an executive producer.

The film, which stars Dev Patel and Jeremy Irons, tells the story of Srinivasa Ramanujan, an Indian mathematician who came to Trinity College, Cambridge University in 1914 under the guidance of Professor G.H.Hardy.

Pamela was part of a crew that was the first to be allowed inside the walls of Trinity College to film, and called it a ‘magical’ experience.

She said: “You have to be more creative with films like this, and you have to hope you get lucky.

“We tried to get Dev Patel on board, and he was really keen because it was so different from anything he had done before. He felt it would really stretch him. We wanted to get Jeremy Irons because he was so perfect for the role.

“We were then in a position to film, but unfortunately the investor pulled out after we found dates for them to film together. But that really gave us a burning desire to make the film, so we worked and worked, and we got the budget.

“The set was short of magical, the cinematographer really had made this sense that you had gone back in time. You read the script of course, but when you see it, it looked like magic.”

Pamela lived and worked in California for 30 years, including marketing on franchises such as Harry Potter, Superman and Batman.

She will be taking questions at the cinema in Windmill Road on April 9, at 7pm, followed by a special screening of the film.

She added: “I think it is a producer’s responsibility to promote the film. I really didn’t expect to be asked but I was very thrilled to hear it was coming and I am delighted to help.”

Kevin Orman, film programmer at the cinema said: “We are delighted to be able to screen The Man Who Knew Infinity and are particularly pleased to welcome the locally-based executive producer of the film who will introduce a special screening.

“Since the cinema re-opened two years ago it has gone from strength-to-strength and this type of event emphasizes the importance of local independent cinemas to the community.”
