Deadline to register to vote looms

Residents around Bognor Regis who fail to register to vote will be visited by council officials.

A new law means Arun District Council's electoral registration officer's staff have the right to call at those households and collect the latest electoral registration form.

This is being delivered to nearly 70,000 properties in the district with an October 15 deadline for its return.

Registering to vote gives citizens a voice at elections and is also a major source of information for financial institutions doing credit checks.

Ian Sumnall, Arun District Council's chief executive and electoral registration officer, said: "If you do not return your form, an electoral registration canvasser will be knocking on your door asking you to complete the form."
