A spokesperson said, “Please check your fences and gardens for broken panels, loose gates or potential entry points, following reported burglaries on the district where suspects have gained entry via insecure gardens.

“Give your fence and gates a good looking over. Has the wind made for some easy access points? Check shed doors and window locks following a wet weekend for rusting or damaged locks, and replace as necessary.

“Always keep your shed locked and secured. Don’t give burglars a head start and replace any broken windows or panelling on sheds and outbuildings.

“Don’t leave tools lying around and pick up anything that has fallen over or things that can be used as a way of breaking into your home.”
