Crawley walk to help Olive Tree support centre

A CRAWLEY woman, who was diagnosed with leukaemia two years ago, has organised a sponsored walk on June 1 for the Olive Tree support centre at Crawley Hospital, which helped her rehabilitate following a transplant.

Pru Rajani, who will be 50 this year, lives in Pease Pottage, Crawley, and is determined to give back something to the support centre which helped her get through some very difficult months.

A former pensions administrator, Pru had lost confidence and couldn't do a lot of things.

"My life had been turned upside down. I kept asking 'Why me?'. But the centre, which is free, looked after me and gave me life coaching sessions and above all gave me hope, Now I want to give something back," she said.

Pru is aiming to become a health walk leader, after taking part in health walks run by Crawley Borough Council, which helped towards her rehabilitation.

But first she wants to raise as much money as possible for the centre, which holds drop in centre sessions every Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for people like herself.

Walkers and sponsors are needed for the event, which starts at 3pm on Sunday June 1 at Buchan Park, Pease Pottage, Crawley. Several different distances- 1km, 1.7km, 2.9km and 5.8 km are available. There will be a cake stall, face painting and refreshments.

"This is the first sponsored walk that has been held for Olive Tree centre. I have already raised 100 myself in sponsorship. We don't know how much we can expect to raise, but I hope it will be a substantial sum," she added. Pru can be sponsored by ringing Olive Tree House on 01293 534465.
