Crash and fire calls for Rye firefighters

Fire crews in Rye were called to a crash involving two cars and a chimney fire yesterday morning (Monday, February 15).

Two East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service appliances from Rye and Broad Oak were sent to Brede after a crash possibly caused by ice at around 7.30am.

No one was trapped inside the wreckage but crews made the area safe and directed traffic.

The fire service requested the highways department attend, after locating a large amount of ice on the road.

Both police and paramedics attended.

Firefighters were then mobilised to a fire in Harbour Road, Rye, at around 8.55am, following reports of a chimney fire in a first-floor bedroom.

Two crews attended and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to tackle the fire.
