Clear blue water for Maritime Festival

There was no sign of the bad weather that beset previous Maritime Festivals last Sunday as thousands flocked to the quayside to enjoy sunshine and a dazzling array of decorated boats.

Rodney Booth said: “This year’s Maritime Festival proved to be a great success providing the town with a much needed boost.

“The event brought thousands of people into Rye, thanks to the hard work from the Rye Harbour Boat Owners Association and supported by 1066 country marketing association, Rastrum Ltd, Atlas business park and many other businesses.

“The strand quay was full of decorated boats in all shapes and sizes which added to a great atmosphere around the quay.

“People were entertained with a variety of music provided by many local bands, whilst a highlight on the water was a breathtaking display provided by Lydd Action Watersports Flyboarding Club.”

Many people entered into the spirit of the event by dressing in colourful, nautical costumes and those putting in an appearance included Rye Town Crier Rex Swain.

Organiser Charles Bronsdon, from Rye Harbour Boat Owner’s Association, said: “It was a fantastic day and a great crowd. We raised £2,000 for charity and I would like to thank all those who helped to make it such a great success.”
