Children shine at Spring Show

It took place on Saturday the 21st of March - the first day of Spring.

Society chairman Mary Boorman said: “The entries were lower than usual overall but there were many children’s entries and a lovely new children’s trophy kindly donated by Jo Crouch and her mother in memory of her father, who was a keen gardener.

“It was a lovely idea and a tribute to Mr Crouch as his grand daughter.

“The award went to little Alice. Well done Alice!

“The hall looked very pretty and Spring like with lovely golden daffodils; stunning hyacinths; hellebores; primroses; polyanthus; violets and beautiful camellias which appear to have grown particularly well this year, unlike the daffodils so far this year.

The children groups entries made finger-print pictures(pupils from Squirrel class at the primary school )drawings from the Cubs entitled “doing my best” and mini daffodils as grown by Playgroup which were very pretty.

“The Brownies also made colourful individual book marks and all worked very hard indeed and visitors really enjoyed these.

“The individual children’s entries were made up of lovely cheerful Easter cards, miniature gardens and pretty vases of spring flowers.

“The society is very keen to encourage children into the delights of horticulture and related crafts and they did us so proud.

“We sadly only obtained a few cookery entries this year but had some unique and well made crafts and floral art displays which were very pretty and lifted our spirits.

“One brave man entered biscuits which looked tasty.

“Thank you to all who supported us and we look forward to seeing everyone at our next event our annual plant sale on May 2 at the village hall as part of the village’s monthly village market (10am to 12noon).”
