Children plant trees in Bognor Regis park

YOUNG gardeners have planted trees in the only park in Bognor Regis.

The junior green-fingered experts have taken part in the first event of its kind in Hotham Park since its restoration two years ago.

Latest to join in the project were 12 Rose Green Junior School gardening club members.

Jacob Towler, eight, said: “I’ve enjoyed planting the trees.

“It’s really good fun that we have been able to get out and have some fresh air.

“We will be coming back to see how our trees grow.”

The school’s visit to the park saw almost 100 rowan, oak, cherry, hazel and silver birch saplings dug in.

Arun District Council’s park manager, Michael Rowland, said 840 trees – including hawthorn, blackthorn and dogweed – were being planted in the campaign.

The other schools were Laburnum Grove, Nyewood C of E Junior and Rose Green Infant.
