Cash stolen from car park ticket machines

THOUSANDS of pounds have been stolen after a number of car park ticket machines were broken into in Battle.

The six machines, in the Upper and Lower Market car parks, were found vandalised and empty after thieves struck overnight on October 25/26.

The doors of the machines had been forced off and the safes stolen from within.

Each ticket machine holds £800 and all were said to be nearly full, meaning up to £4,800 could have been taken in the raids.

The safes were later found abandoned and handed in to Battle Police Station on Monday.

Police are examining CCTV footage in a bid to identify the culprits.

Officers believe the same thieves are also responsible for a similar incident last month.

Three ticket machines were broken into in the town’s Mount Street car park overnight on September 27/28.

Around £1,400 in change was taken and Rother District Council, which owns the car park, was left with a £1,600 repair bill to fix the machines.
