Campaigners welcome planning guidance changes

Sue Ware, co-founder of Save Angmering Village, said it was important the Government was now recognising Arun’s ‘constraints’ in terms of delivering new homes.

She welcomed the announcement made by planning minister Nick Boles.

She said: “We welcome it because there’s recognition of the constraints Arun has, largely because of the South Downs National Park.

“The South Downs National Park is a large part of Arun and it’s very dear to our hearts.

“We hope the housing east of Roundstone Lane will be looked at again because it’s near to the South Downs National Park and we don’t want it to be turned into an urban sprawl.”

Sue said it was important Arun District Council reconsidered its housing plans in light of the new guidance, and also thought again about ‘duty to co-operate’ housing – development which local authorities are required to plan for if neighbouring local authorities do not have the sites on which to build themselves.

Sue said there was a possibility local authorities’ housing needs could be triple-counted by multiple neighbouring councils each making allowances for the same area’s housing needs.

She pledged the group would continue its work to opposed unsustainable development.
