Burglar's jail term 'too light'

A Pagham business owner has criticised the sentence imposed on a burglar of his premises.

Stuart Barclay said the 100 which Ian Tarling had been ordered to pay him in compensation on top of six months community service was not enough.

Tarling, of Sea Lane, was recently handed the sentence by Chichester magistrates after he pleaded guilty to breaking into The Mortgage Exchange on The Parade last November 3.

Mr Barclay said: "My opinion of that sentence is that it is not a deterrent at all. It's nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

"The loss of computers during that break-in caused an immense amount of damage to my business.

"They contained a lot of information about my clients and it's that information which is valuable."
