They have spent a lot of time and effort in improving the pitch and putting in flood lights. It looks brilliant. Thanks guys!

Bereavement It saddnes me to impart the news that we have lost another dear member of Brede Community Mrs Muriel Cummings, I know she will be missed by many but as with others departed she like them will remain in the memories of those who knew her.

Volunteers needed in the Village:1.Would you like to help make our villages safer and more pleasant places in which to live? Brede Speedwatch is seeking new volunteers. Operating under the authority of Sussex Police, we use a radar speed device to monitor the speed of vehicles on our roads. The registration details of vehicles exceeding the speed limit along with the recorded speed are sent to the Police who will issue advisory letters to the vehicle’s keeper. Repeat offenders can expect follow-up action by the Police. You will not be required to stop offenders, indeed we are not authorised to do so, merely note the cars’ details. Full training will be given in the use of the speed device and high visibility jackets are provided. If you can spare a couple of hours every week, then we would welcome you as a member of the group. For more information, please call Marion Brunt on 883566 or Les Nottage on 882712.

Brede Village Hall: has had a bit of a face lift, the ladies and gents toilets have been renovated and are currently being decorated. The ladies looks very nice indeed. A great deal of money has been spent updating them so it is hoped that everyone using the hall will treat the conveniences as good as their own bathrooms. The Village Hall committee has also purchased new small tables as the old brown ones had not only become tatty but also a bit dangerous. The Hall is all our (the Village) responsibility as most of us use it for various reasons. It is hoped that there are a number of younger people in the village who would like to join the management team to help them move the hall forward and help market our vital commodity. Please contact Philip Romani 01424 883420 He is also collecting money for the Champions of Brede and is advocating that people begin paying by standing order which would simplify things. As people may be aware Philip took on the job when our beloved Paul Pryke died. It is hoped that someone else could take on the role as Philip has other commitments and is finding it increasingly difficult. There are a number of jobs done in the Village by older folk and it would be appreciated if some of the younger ones in the Village came forward to help, as it would be a shame if some of the societies, groups, clubs or halls fall by the wayside because no one offered to help. It might be that someone has the skill of a treasurer and I know that the Treasurer of St Georges Brede wishes to step down at the next AGM. It would be good if someone came forward now as they could be helped to ease their way in by Philip Bowden the current Treasurer. Please contact Father Martin 01424 883408 if you are interested.

Brede Church Flower Festival August Bank Holiday. Now in it’s 36th year; Sue Sturmey the Flower display co-ordinator wanted to do something that highlighted the major events in history which is why all the displays will be based around some of the world’s great historical and relious events. Last year comments such as ‘Stunning’, ‘Every year one runs out of praise for the displays’, ‘Spectacular – beautiful flowers, superbly arranged’ were some of the comments made by some of the 1,300 visitors who came from afield as Australia, New Zealand.the USA, France, Germany, the Netherlands as well as Coventry, Oxfordshire, London, Essex and Hertfordshire. Sue has a list of themes for this year and would love to hear from anyone who would like to make a display or arrangement. You do not need to have previous experience as help is on hand if you have not been involved before. Please contact Sue Sturmey 01424 882544 if you would like to have a go – children/adults men/women . Here is an event that everyone in the Village could help with and it has to be said, I know many of you do; but, we still need more bodys to help. The Flower Festival is always fun and, if anyone would like to help in any capacity putting up marquees and tentage, flower arranging, stewarding, car parking, catering, manning the many stalls or in any other way then please contact Bobby Boud 01424 882549 who will be very happy to hear from you and will be able to put you in touch with the right person organising each activity.
