Boost for Pebsham Park

PEOPLE living close to Pebsham Country Park, which lies between Bexhill, Crowhurst and Hastings, are being urged to do their bit for wildlife.

Thanks to a Big Lottery Awards for All grant of more than £8,500, the Sussex Wildlife Trust is inviting local folk to take part in a special programme of events and activities to explore the site’s delights.

From bug-hunting to conservation work parties, the sessions will enable people to learn more about some of the different species living within the 1,480 acres (600 hectares) park.

Project manager Alison Patrick (pictured), said: “They will discover how habitats are managed and the important role the park plays not just for those creatures, but for the local community’s own health and well being.”

She said that wildlife gardening makeovers would help create “green corridors” linking into the park, allowing animals to move freely through surrounding urban areas in their quest for food, shelter and breeding sites.

During the year ahead work will also be done to plant butterfly banks, create ponds and put up bird and bat boxes, with a photographic record being kept for a celebratory exhibition next summer.
