Bognor Regis police officer in court on data charges

A POLICE constable based in Bognor Regis has appeared in court charged with obtaining personal information.

Thomas Grant, 24, appeared at Worthing Magistrates’ Court yesterday (July 9) charged with six counts of knowingly or recklessly obtaining personal data at Bognor Regis Police Station.

Grant is alleged to have committed the offences at the London Road station between May 1 and September 24 of last year contravening Sections 55(3) and 60(2) of the Data Protection Act 1998.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on bail to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on October 4.

He is currently suspended from his role and is the subject of an internal disciplinary investigation.
