Bognor Regis club celebrates quarter century

A quarter of a century of companionship has been celebrated by the members of a Bognor Regis club.

The 25 years of monthly meetings was marked by a special cake cutting ceremony at the April get-together of the Bognor Regis Ladies Probus Club.

Long-standing member Jean Rose performed the symbolic act.

About 67 of the club’s 85 members were present at the Inglenook Hotel in Pagham for the occasion on Thursday, April 21.

They enjoyed a talk by local historian Sylvia Endacott with a particular emphasis on the events when the club was founded in 1986.

A similar number also took part in another celebration last night, Wednesday, April 27, with a buffet supper and musical entertainment at the Gordon Centre on Canada Grove.

Club president Heather Collins said: “The main purpose of the club is for members of our age group to get together for a congenial lunch and a speaker.

“We have survived so well because we have enthusiastic members who enjoy meeting on the third Thursday of each month.

“The Probus club – which stands for professional and business - was set up as an off-shoot of Rotary for people who have retired.”
