Bigfoot and the Beastie Boys

RAP Superstars The Beastie Boys have used a Worthing model maker to create 50 bigfoots to conincide with the release of their first album in six years.

Rachel Williams, from Pavilion Road, spent many hours creating the models in a workshop at her home.

They have been distributed around the world and been given away as gifts at album launch parties.

Rachel, 41, has been making models for 15 years since completing a HND in Theatre Studies, Design and Crafts, at Northbrook College.

She said: "I have made all sorts of props, from unicorns to wolves to masks.

"I like modelling animals because it's a real challenge to make them look lifelike."

However, the Bigfoot models proved quite a difficult task, taking up a lot of man hours.

In all, five people worked on their production.

"At first it took over an hour to stick the fur on but after a while it was taking about half that time, said Rachel.

"The original casting for the moulds took about two days and then we had them cast in resin in Chichester, where I had to paint tiny eyes on each one.

"The most painstaking part of the process was cutting the fur - luckily Colectic, who managed the project, found three suitable people to help "it was a real team effort."

However, Rachel does not expect any other requests from the Beastie Boys, pictured below, right.

She said: "It was such a bizarre request, we don't expect we will be doing any others for a while."

The Sasquatch character ton which the model was based, was from Beastie Boys video "Triple Trouble".

They claim their six-year absence from the music industry was due to being captured by Sasquatch, who kept them hostage in a cave.

Rachel became involved in the project when she was contacted by Simon Woollard, from Worthing-based Collective Media, who had been hired to find someone to make them.

Simon, 26, said: "A London marketing company was looking for an off-the-shelf Bigfoot figure but were having trouble finding something suitable.for their needs.

"A client suggested that they visit a website I have set up to promote artists looking to work in the creative industries."
