Arun tops the list for building most affordable homes

Figures released by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) show the council built a total of 800 affordable homes during the four years since 2010 – which is the highest of any West Sussex-based authority.

During the dame period Mid Sussex District Council built a total of 530 affordable homes, while Horsham District Council created 530 and Chichester District Council constructed 480.

Arun’s other neighbouring authorities, Worthing Borough Council and Adur District Council built 170 and 230 affordable homes, respectively,

Arun is now on-track to achieve its target of 1,000 affordable homes by the end of 2015 as set out in the council’s housing strategy ‘Raise the Roof’.

Councillor Ricky Bower, Arun’s cabinet member for planning was pleased all the hard work and commitment by the council’s staff and councillors had been recognised. He said: “We as a council have made a firm commitment, invested money and huge resources over the past couple of years to realise the aims of our ‘Raise the Roof’ strategy. Of course we are well aware of the ongoing hard work to reach our published affordable housing targets, those in need of this particular housing provision and the benefit to the Arun community as a whole.”
