Ambulance in collision

A WOMAN was seriously hurt after an ambulance was in collision with her car on Tuesday.

The accident happened in Eastbourne Road, Pevensey Bay while the ambulance was on its way to the scene of a serious road accident in Hastings at about 9.30pm.

A Toyota Carina driven by a local woman aged 60 collided head-on with the ambulance. Firefighters had to cut open the car to release the woman, who was then taken to Eastbourne hospital with serious injuries.

The ambulance crew were uninjured but suffered from shock. The ambulance received damage to its bumper and wing and was considered unfit to return to service later in the evening.

The road was closed for about three hours while police crash investigators examined the scene. An investigation is underway, and witnesses are urged to contact PC Simon Rideout on 0845 60 70 999.
