Ambrette to stay in Ryefollowing fears of closure

A report published in The Caterer last week said top chef Dev Biswal was closing the High Street business following a dispute with the landlord of the property.

This was confirmed by George Shaw, who runs the marketing company who promote the Ambrette. Now it has been announced the Ambrette will be moving to a new premises in the High Street a few yards away.

The restaurant, which opened in 2011, was the second of his three Ambrette sites - the first having opened in Margate. The third opened in Canterbury in Kent last year.

Dev is known for creating Indian influenced dishes that use locally sourced ingredients.

A joint statement from Dev and Emma Biswas said: “We are very pleased to announce that the Ambrette Rye is re-opening at 6 High Street, Rye. This restaurant is a larger premises and is known locally as the old Monastery Restaurant. We will be opening this weekend to the public and are looking forward to welcoming back our regulars.

“We have received over whelming support from local residents, business owners and in particular local B&Bs and Hotels. We would like to pass on our thank you to everyone that has helped us over the last two weeks. We are very much looking forward to a fresh new start in Rye.”
