A sporting chance for Bexhill talent

A NEW website has been launched which aims to help talented sportsmen, and women, of the local area to be discovered - without leaving the comfort of their own homes.

The innovative website, called www.ucatchme.com, was conceived and designed by 22 year old Leon Cassidy. He came up with what he calls, 'a simple idea to get talent on-line', about a year ago, shortly after he'd finished studying Business Finance at Durham University.

He said: "I wanted to create an on-line space that would allow anyone with a talent the chance to be discovered without having to travel to big cities or major trials. Bexhill has a fantastic sporting talent pool that should be retained, and I want CatchMe to encourage and motivate these individuals - to inspire them to be the best they can be."

Leon launched the free web-site on 8/8/08 to tie in with the Olympics, and he's hoping that talented sports people will be in with more than a sporting chance to represent the UK in the 2012 Olympics - which they otherwise might not have had.

He said: " The real beauty, apart from all the functions, is the fact the cost to the user is nothing, no hidden charges at all. Many young people don't have the money to travel large distances to major trials or competitions. CatchMe offers it's services for free, to truly promote the growth of talent in local areas and, importantly, without the talent needing to move away to do so."

Leon said that talent scouts world wide will now have the chance to log onto his web-site and view local talent, where otherwise they may, "never ever get to see them", thereby reducing what he calls the "chance factor."

The unique service that CatchMe offers allows budding sports individuals to post details such as height, weight, body fat percentage, along with more specific sports data.

Leon said the reasoning behind this is that a sports person may be good at one particular sport, but by providing their sports data on-line this could well lead to a sporting talent scout determining that an individual may suitable for a different specific sport, one they may not have thought of, possibly leading to a new "sporting discovery."

Although it's still early days Leon said he has had a lot of interest and "good, positive feed back" since he launched the web-site, and encourages all budding athletes to sign up for the free user friendly registration saying, "Your country could be looking for you!"

He added: "If you think you can take a punch at boxing and be the next Kenny Egan, or make a splash at swimming and be the next Michael Phelps, or Rebecca Adlington, or even race to breathtaking speeds with Cycling and Sprinting and be the future Chris Hoy, or the one to break Usain Bolt's world record, then CatchMe is for you."
