The challenge will see the Littlehampton resident complete one mini-triathlon every day from Sunday June 1 until her 75th birthday on August 14.

Most days start with a 1,000 metre swim at Littlehampton Swimming and Sports centre.

Then she gets on her bike and cycles 15km around the Littlehampton and Rustington area before completing the mini-triathlon with a 3km run along Littlehampton seafront.

Daphne does this daily in the mornings on weekdays and weekends, finishing by around 8.30am each day.

Husband Steve will join her. They celebrated their 35th anniversary around the time they started the challenge.

Daphne has been competing in triathlons for many years. In fact, 2014 will be her 25th year of racing in her favourite sport.

She took up triathlon as a sport at the age of 50 after many years of being a couch potato.

Since then she has taken her place on the GB squad in races in far-away places like Japan, Australia the USA and Canada as well as many European countries for National, European and World Championships.

Daphne said: “As the years roll by, it gets harder and harder to keep pushing myself on.

“When the going gets hard I tell myself that there are thousands of people who are not able to take part in sports like mine for a variety of reasons and that helps me push through the discomfort zone.”

Daphne’s challenge is helping to raise money for Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice, based in Arundel.

Monday July 7 and Tuesday July 8 was the half-way point of the challenge for Daphne.

Daphne said: “Yes it is all going rather well considering that I only started training for my big challenge this year. I am pleased with the amount raised for Chestnut Tree House so far but I hope to do much better as my Mini-Triathlon Challenge progresses.”
