146 drivers stopped

THE first week of the summer campaign to cut down on drink-driving has seen 146 drivers stopped by Sussex Police.

Ten were arrested after failing a breath test and one for failing the field impairment test for drugs.

Sussex Police is taking part in the national campaign to target irresponsible and dangerous drivers.

The annual campaign targets those people who think that drinking or taking drugs and then getting behind the wheel of a car is acceptable.

The aim is to drive down road casualties and bring offenders to justice.

Superintendent Paul Morrison of the Sussex Road Policing Unit, said: "Drink and drug-driving is not just an issue during these campaigns, it is a real threat to the safety of road users throughout the whole year.

"If drivers run the risk then they chose to face the stiffest penalties permitted by law, losing their own life or the lives of others."
