Singer-songwriter has carved her own niche
Composing musical depictions of New York life which weave in a series of layered characters, Regina Spektor’s music is a refreshing alternative to the industry status quo.
Straddling the fine line between brilliance and just plain weird, the Russian-born singer has carved her own niche in New York’s anti-folk scene with her quirky vocals and piano-driven pop.

Trained in classical piano from an early age, Regina Spektor’s introduction to Western pop culture came via her father trading pop and rock cassettes, including those of Queen and The Beatles, during the Soviet Union.
Later exposed to female legends Billie Holliday, Joni Mitchell and Ani DiFranco, Regina Spektor began laying groundwork for what was to become her trademark vocal style.
Written around fictional characters and events, the Regina Spektor discography is infused with literary references from F Scott Fitzgerald, Virginia Woolf and the Bible, to name but a few.
