A vet’s practice in Sussex has introduced a special offer at its new Rottingdean branch to help with the cost-of-living crisis.

According to owner and senior vet Dr Julia Mewes, some people feeling the pinch are putting off pet vaccinations. This has exacerbated a lasting lockdown effect, when limited services were available and some people fell out of the habit of annual vaccinations.

This means that family pets are now more at risk of common illnesses that can easily be avoided, or have their severity lessened, thanks to inoculation.

Julia said: “We know that some animals missed out on vaccinations during the pandemic and have never made it back again into the healthy habit of boosting inoculations every year.

“We have designed a special offer for the first 30 adult cats and 30 adult dogs who are missing vaccinations to have discounted jabs, saving* £42, if the owners sign up to our monthly Pet Care Plan and quote Sussex World.”

The lapsed vaccinations must be administered three weeks apart (at a discounted rate); thereafter ongoing vaccines are covered as part of the Pet Care Plan, which has many other benefits.

Prompt service

Pet plan members can also get discounted treatments like dental work and neutering with no waiting lists – that means if your beloved pet has a dodgy molar they can be treated right away, without a painful and distressing delay for appointments. This is obviously good news for a pet in pain, but also flexible and accommodating for pet owners trying to fit appointments round busy lives.

About Pet Care Plan

It’s the affordable way to ensure your pet’s vaccinations stay up to date, they get twice yearly check-ups, routine preventatives plus discounts on other services, and a fast-track for appointments when things like neutering or teeth removal is required.

Owners pay a set fee by direct debit every month for 12 months and are then covered for all future vaccines, recommended anti-parasitics (flea and worm treatments), claw clips and health checks twice a year (one at vaccination time and one six months later).

Plus, pet plan members get an additional 10 per cent off all other services, including neutering and dentistry.

Julia added: “We know just how much people love their pets and want to get them the best care. We’ve got Pet Care Plans for dogs starting from £17.50 per month (depending on the dog’s weight), and for cats it is £16.75 per month. We know that spreading the payments helps make people’s lives easier and are happy to help.

“And we try to ensure your pet sees the same vet at every visit, building up a rapport and helping to ensure a trip for treatment isn’t a distressing visit.”

To find out more about the Pet Care Plan, visit The Mewes Vet at Rottingdean, or at its flagship practice in Haywards Heath.

The independently owned practice – which is not part of any chain – has been offering veterinary services in the region for many years, and the Haywards Heath branch was named the best vets in West Sussex in 2021 at the Best UK Vet Awards.

*The Pet Care Plan is a 12 month contract and terms and conditions apply. First monthly payment, as well as direct debit details are required at the time of vaccination. Lapsed vaccinations normally cost £131.10 for dogs, reduced to £89 with this offer, and normally £107.10 for cats, reduced to £65 for this offer. By joining the Pet Care Plan scheme the first 30 dogs and 30 cats not only get a discount rate for lapsed jabs, but then enjoy all the benefits all year round of the Pet Care Plan.
