Xerxes is a witty commentary on love and power, and this spectacular production has much to offer those new to opera.

The hero Xerxes, sung by rising star Jake Arditti, pursues his brother’s girlfriend, jilts his fiancee and creates mad schemes to conquer the world.

Director Jenny Miller describes the staging as a cross between Tim Burton and The Godfather Part One. Along with creative team Faye Bradley, Rebecca Hanbury and Michael Spenceley, she has created a visual cocktail of light movement and atmospheric colour.

Jake Arditti sings with Tai Oney, Alice Privett and a cast including Jon Stainsby, Mathew Durkan, Abbi Temple, Chiara Vinci, Laurence Panter, and Lucinda Stuart-Grant.

The show starts at 7pm and is sung in Italian with surtitles. Tickets are £18. Visit www.musicglue.com/stmaryinthecastle or call 01424 715880
